Connecting peristaltic pump tubing to a threaded port
There are several options for connecting flexible soft-walled peristaltic pump tubing (e.g. Tygon® and PharMed®) to threaded ports for further transfer of liquids into a fluidic system. Due to their soft tubing walls, such tubing can typically not use the compression cone-based fitting systems developed for more rigid tubing materials such as FEP, PEEK, and stainless-steel. Instead, peristaltic pump tubing typically relies on a barbed-type connector that slightly expands the tubing wall from within the flow path to make a sealing connection.
The Peristaltic Tubing Adapter provides highly reliable connections of soft-walled tubing to 1/4-28 fittings. This adapter design has the added functionality that its internal retainer sleeve provides a secure end stop on the soft-walled tubing, thus allowing custom cut lengths of peristaltic tubing to be installed on any pump head. The two different versions of the Peristaltic Tubing Adapter (P-757, P-767) are constructed from PEEK and can together accommodate soft-walled tubing IDs between 0.048″ and 0.150” (1.20 – 3.80 mm).
Another possibility is the Conical Adapter Assembly system where the coned end of the adapter body allows peristaltic tubing to slide on very easily. The threaded end of the adaptor body fits directly to 1/4-28 female nuts and cones of the Super Flangeless fitting system. The four different versions of the Conical Adapter Assembly (P-794, P-797, P-798, P-799) are constructed from PEEK and ETFE to cover peristaltic tubing IDs from 0.020″ to 1/8” (0.50 – 3.20 mm).
The polypropylene-based Swivel Barb Adapter type constitutes another option for connecting peristaltic tubing to threaded ports. Since its barbed insert can spin freely from the threaded 1/4-28 nut, no twisting of tubing will occur during assembly. The three versions of the Swivel Barb Adapter (D-646, D-647, D-648) are designed to fit soft-walled tubing with IDs of 1/16” (1.55 mm), 3/32” (2.40 mm), and 1/8” (3.20 mm), respectively.
