Facilitated qualification of liquid chromatography instruments
The free printed magazine EuroLab reported in its April 2025 issue about how qualification of liquid chromatography instruments (HPLC & UHPLC) can be facilitated by a new continuous flow meter with a standardised measurement protocol. This piece of text, featured in the magazine’s section for analytical & lab equipment, was authored by liquid chromatography expert Dr. Tobias Jonsson at Diduco, together with Anders Grahn at Biotech Fluidics.
The article highlights current guidelines for operational qualification (OQ) of liquid chromatography instruments as issued by European and American regulatory bodies (EDQM and USP). It also outlines current approaches to determine liquid flow rate, including manual procedures and different types of flow meters.
Unique to the Biotech Liquid Flow Meter with the Advanced Pump Validation Kit is that it provides an independent assessment of flow pulsation
In addition, the article describes the newer type of continuous flow meters based on thermal conductivity, which enables high frequency monitoring. When implemented in a standardised protocol, this feature enables determination of an additional instrument quality parameter that can quantify flow variability. Or as the authors expressed it: “Unique to the Biotech Liquid Flow Meter with the Advanced Pump Validation Kit is that it provides an independent assessment of flow pulsation.”.
