NO TROUBLES WITH BUBBLES®

DEGASi® FlatFilm

New inline degasser with exceptional capabilities

Biotech Fluidics’ new DEGASi® FlatFilm redefines the capabilities of inline degassers. This engineering marvel delivers double the degassing performance per unit volume, at ten times lower flow resistance, while also reducing evaporative solvent loss, relative to traditional tubular degasser designs. In addition, this new inline degasser provides an extremely silent operation with about thirty percent longer life expectancy compared to traditional constructions. It also offers a reduced environmental footprint by requiring only one tenth the amount of perfluoroalkylated (PFAS) polymers within the degassing membrane.

The DEGASi® FlatFilm stand-alone inline degasser is suitable for a wide range of analytical and semi-preparative applications involving anything from biocompatible requirements to demanding organic solvent compatibility including hexane. The nominal flow rate is 6 mL/min per channel, and this degasser is available with 1-6 degassing channels. The port design is 1/4-28 Flat-Bottom for connection of tubing with OD ranging from 1/16” to 1/8”.

Description

The DEGASi® FlatFilm inline degasser incorporates the new DEGASi® Vacuum Control units that include the fifth generation IDEX StabiliX™ vacuum pump. This provides an extremely silent operation with about thirty percent longer life expectancy than earlier generation vacuum controls and pumps at similar vacuum levels. The DEGASi® FlatFilm design conforms to all modern regulating algorithms to accomplish dual-stage vacuum and zero hysteresis operation to minimize noise and wear, while maximizing performance, stability, and lifetime of an inline degasser.

The unique degassing chamber in DEGASi® FlatFilm, is based on a new flat reinforced Teflon™ AF membrane that is permeable to gases but not to liquids. This provides double the degassing performance per unit volume compared to traditional tubular degasser designs, and its 500 µL internal hold up volume can therefore cover both analytical and semi-preparative applications. Thanks to the extremely low flow resistance of the degassing chambers in DEGASi® FlatFilm, it is possible to connect up to five channels in series, thus accomplishing effective degassing up to 30 mL/min. Moreover, the new degassing membrane uses only about one tenth the amount of perfluoroalkylated (PFAS) polymers, thus offering a reduced environmental footprint.

With its next generation vacuum regulation capabilities, the DEGASi® FlatFilm inline degasser can be custom programmed for different vacuum levels optimized for specific applications. This enables reduction of evaporative solvent loss through the degasser membrane for volatile solvents such as acetone, hexane, and various ethers, while extending vacuum pump lifetime even more.

Typically, all problems with bubble formation are eliminated when 40-50% of the dissolved gases are removed, which often can be critical in analytical systems as well as dispensing applications. The removal of dissolved gases from liquid chromatography mobile phases reduces retention time shifts and improves baseline stability, while also reducing the level of oxygen which otherwise can interfere with detection techniques such as UV absorption and fluorescence. Biotech Fluidics are always happy to guide you to the degassing solution that best suits your application and requirements.
